Allergies, also known as allergic diseases, are a number of conditions caused by hypersensitivity of the immune system to something in the environment that usually causes little or no problem in most people. These diseases include allergic rhinitis, food allergies, atopic dermatitis, and allergic asthma among others. Symptoms of allergic reactions may include red eyes, an itchy rash, runny nose, shortness of breath, or swelling.
Allergic diseases are becoming increasingly common in the developed world. Western approaches commonly include antihistamines, decongestants, or drugs that act on the nervous system. While these may be effective in treating the allergic response, they often have undesirable side effects, such as drowsiness, immune system suppression or over-reliance on medications. Chinese herbal medicine offers alternative solutions, treating the whole person. The goal of TCM is to treat one’s acute symptoms and provide immediate relief, but to also treat any underlying imbalances which may be the real cause of one’s allergy problems. TCM can offer relief for patients suffering from both acute and chronic allergies
In this webinar, we discuss the allergic load, clinically effective herbal formulas, lifestyle changes, and tips for managing the allergic patient.
