Curcumins have been extensively researched against cancer. In animal models, curcumins have inhibited cancer of lung, skin, head and neck, mouth, liver and breast and have shown promise in leukemia and lymphoma. There are two clinical studies using Curcuma Flow in cancer. The first trial involved 160 patients who had recently received surgery, 35-70 years of age. A month after surgery, each patient was started on chemotherapy or radiation therapy according to the type of cancer. Each patient had their blood tested for oxidative stress, an indicator of inadequate antioxidant defense. Oxidative stress that is sustained for months or years can increase the risk of tissue or organ damage. Surgery, chemo and radiation therapy all increase oxidative stress.
Each patient received either three 500mg capsules of Curcuma Flow or three identical placebos. The regimen began on the first day after their first cycle of chemo or radiation therapy, and continued for sixty days. At the end of the trial, the types of adverse effects from chemotherapy and the degree of severity were consistently lower in the group that received Curcuma Flow. Nausea, vomiting, malnutrition, infections, leukopenia, cardiovascular toxicity, cognitive impairment, and oxidative stress were all improved with the addition of Curcuma Flow. In the radiation group, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, weakness, swallowing problems, edema, malnutrition, cognitive impairment were all improved in the Curcuma Flow group. In addition, tissue damage to the mouth, throat, esophagus, and bowel were reduced.
In the second study, 80 patients, 25 to 65 years of age, received either Curcuma Flow or a placebo for eight weeks. All patients had solid tumors and were receiving chemotherapy. One of the outcome measures was an Evaluation of “health related quality of life”. All patients who received Curcuma Flow experienced improved quality of life. Curcuma Flow also lowered CRP (C-reactive protein) and additional inflammatory markers: TNF-alpha, MCP-1, TGF-Beta, CGRP, increased antioxidant activity, elevated blood glutathione an antioxidant nutrient.
The conclusion of the two trials is: Curcuma Flow improves cancer patient’s quality of life, reduces side effects from surgery, chemo and radiation therapy, reduces oxidative stress, and improves antioxidant defenses.
