Children

How should children's digestive conditions be addressed?

Youngsters, who can adopt dietary changes, often make quick progress. The child and family must make the choice of whether or not to undertake dietary changes or to stay on medications. I was once consulted by a ten year old boy with Crohn's disease and his family. The biomedical solution was to have the boy take Prednisone and immune suppressives long term. I indicated to the family that unless the boy eliminated his daily milk drinking, and tomato products, that he would have to remain on these medications. Also, for such cases, I recommend ongoing counseling, either family therapy or spiritual counseling, in addition to encouraging the child to participate in extracurricular activities and exercise.
